The ZOTAC G41ITX-B-E uses the Intel LGA 775/ Socket T CPU socket. Any compatible Intel CPU will have the same socket entry. It uses the DDR3 memory type, with maximum speeds of up to 1066 MHz, and 2 DDR3 slots allowing for a maximum total of 8 GB RAM.
The Mini-ITX form factor is common for low-power system builds. Lower power requirements allow for less cooling, which in turn means a quieter PC. As such, the ZOTAC G41ITX-B-E may be ideal for activities that require minimal sound excess, such as watching movies. For a gaming PC, a traditional ATX form factor is recommended, which would be more generally compatible and would provide more expansion options than Mini-ITX, but Mini-ITX is still a solid choice.
The ZOTAC G41ITX-B-E has 3 SATA 2.0 hard drive slots. These allow for data speeds of up to 3GB/s. SATA 2.0 is a very common standard, and despite the emergence of SATA 3.0 - whose potential is difficult to reach currently - SATA 2.0 remains a viable option.
The ZOTAC G41ITX-B-E supports onboard graphics. This allows for integrated graphics when paired with a compatible CPU that supports them. Integrated graphics are a cheap alternative to using a graphics card, but should be avoided when frequently using modern applications or games that require intense graphical processing. There are 0 PCIe x16 slots on this motherboard. This means a graphics cards will have to be placed in a smaller PCIe slot, which will significantly and detrimentally affect its performance potential, limiting it to the bandwidth of that particular slot. In addition, the graphics card interface revision should be as close as possible to the motherboard's PCIe v2.x graphics card interface in order to maximize the potential of both the motherboard and the graphics card. The ZOTAC G41ITX-B-E does not support multiple graphics cards via Nvidia SLI or AMD Crossfire.
The ZOTAC G41ITX-B-E has 8 USB 2.0 slots but no USB 3.0 slots. While USB 3.0 slots are so far by no means necessary, and with a plethora of USB 2.0 peripherals to choose from, the USB functionality on this motherboard should be fine. If planning on building a new system, a motherboard with USB 3.0 is likely to have a longer life cycle, however.
