Are you ready to venture into the world of Aeternum? Amazon Games' highly anticipated MMO has just launched, and whilst the queue times are pretty dire, we at least have some FPS performance benchmarks to cover so you can see how well your own PC setup might fare in this pretty good looking game...

First of all, in this PC performance benchmark article for New World, we benchmark a couple graphics cards going from the higher-end RTX 3070; to the mid-range GTX 1060 which is just above the recommended GPU. Since queue times are very long at the moment in New World, we wanted to give you guys these initial benchmarks on some mid-range and higher-end hardware first.

Then we go through the FPS test results of each graphics card running at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. From there we can see the performance of the minimum and recommended system requirement graphics cards and consider how well optimized New World really is.

New World unfortunately does not include an in-game benchmarking tool, so for these results listed below we started in one of the early open areas of the game, running around and killing some enemies. Since most of your time in New World will be exploring large open environments with lots of areas with enemies to fight, we felt this run to be pretty representative of the majority of your gameplay experience in New World.

With that in mind, let's jump into the PC performance benchmarks for New World...

0.1% Low FPS 8.2 1.5 4.5 2.9

Finally, the FPS performance of the RTX 3070 at 4K is not too bad, as even though it achieves less than 60fps on Very High graphics settings, New World does not need to be played at 60fps in order to feel comfortable and enjoyable. Therefore, the RTX 3070 is perfectly suitable for playing New World on Very High graphics settings at 4K resolution. Though, once again, the stuttering returns and, again, is much worse due to the higher resolution.

Looking at all the results above, the RTX 3070 is perfect for playing New World on Very High graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K. Though the latter does not achieve 60fps on Max settings, but New World is still enjoyable and comfortable to play even at sub-60fps. However, stuttering gets worse the higher the graphics settings and resolution.

Conclusion

Looking at the benchmark results above, New World clearly has some issues with stuttering though that can be attributed to a new launch and unoptimized performance/at capacity servers. Nevertheless, it still performs really well on average even on mid-range hardware.

For instance, the GTX 1060 is able to play New World at 1440p on Very High graphics settings and still be considered playable and comfortable to play. This is because New World does not necessarily need to be played at 60fps in order to feel comfortable to play, though higher performance on lower settings/resolution is still ideal.

If you want to play New World at its best then you will need a decently high-end GPU like an RTX 3080 to likely hit 60fps on Very High graphics settings at 4K resolution. Though, as it stands, an RTX 3070 achieves just below 60fps on the same settings and is still playable, so it won't need to be very high-end to be comfortable.

There is a problem with stuttering though, as can be seen in most of the 1% Low and 0.1% Low FPS results and even the Min FPS at times. This does not affect enjoyability that much, but can be irritating for some and will certainly become more noticeable in more graphically intense environments.

Additionally, whilst the majority of your time in New World will likely be taking place in large open environments, some areas like towns will include many more players and can significantly affect performance. Unfortunately, there's no easy one-size-fits-all solution here, and you may need to turn down your graphics settings in areas like these to have a more comfortable experience.

Lastly, New World is suffering significantly from long queue times which can often take hours to enter into a server. With that in mind, we thought we'd at least share these initial benchmarks so you can see what performance is like on a range of hardware going from some top-end specs like the RTX 3070, to the mid-range GTX 1060 which is still the most popular GPU for PC players.

As always, we welcome any and all feedback from you guys as well with your experience of hardware configurations and FPS performance/quality settings. That way we can all better gauge how well our systems will be able to run New World.
