Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta PC system requirements revealed
By Jon Sutton on September 19th, 2019 at 09:49am - original article from game-debate

It feels like a heck of a long time since a new Call of Duty has been met with genuine excitement, yet Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is certainly generating some hype. IW is using a new engine for this reboot of sorts, with COD: Modern Warfare (2019) sporting some fantastic ultra-realistic visuals. But, at what cost? Here are the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PC beta's system specs.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz or AMD FX-8320 3.5 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 2 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 or AMD Radeon HD 7950
  • DX: DirectX 12
  • HDD: 45 GB available space

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.2 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 4 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB
  • DX: DirectX 12
  • HDD: 45 GB available space

The first thing to bear in mind is these are the system requirements for COD: Modern Warfare's beta and so are subject to change. We don't expect them to, aside from installation size, but the possibly is there with six weeks to go until launch.

Until the beta test goes live this evening it's fairly difficult to predict the PC performance of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Infinity Ward's COD: MW is the first game in the entire series to run on a new in-house game engine, meaning we have to throw out all our old expectations of performance.

With all that said, the system specs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare are actually very reasonable. As a minimum, you'll need a quad-core processor to run Modern Warfare, as well as a low to mid-range DirectX 11-capable video card. The GTX 670 and Radeon HD 7950 are the minimum spec GPUs, and modern equivalents would include the GeForce GTX 1650 and Radeon RX 570. That's kind of high for a minimum spec and so we do expect some wiggle room underneath this. You'll also need 8GB RAM and 45GB HDD space. COD: WW2 really struggled with 8GB RAM but Modern Warfare does run on a new engine.

For COD: MW's recommended system requirements you'll need a modern mid-range graphics card such as a GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 580, along with a beefier CPU. The more cores the better here, and we don't see either of the recommended processors breaking into much of a sweat unless you're gunning for ultra-high frame rates.

Judging from the specs, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare may only be available as a DirectX 12 version, which should be interesting. As long as you have a DX11 video card it can run DX12.

There's no word on real-time ray-tracing just yet so this may not be implemented in time for the COD: MW beta test. If ray-tracing is included then you will require a GeForce RTX 20 series graphics card for stable frame rates.

As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarks and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare GPU benchmark chart and we also have a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.
